We went to this museum after touring the nearby fort so it was 4pm on a Tuesday after Labor Day. The museum closes at 5 and if you read everything it might take 45 minutes to tour the inside. It took us about 25. So we started to head outside to the the actual buildings to tour ( my favorite part and the kids too), and the lady that worked there was telling someone to come back a different day. It was supposed to be opened another 35 minutes. She then told us she had just locked up the buildings outside because of rain. It wasn’t raining. Maybe 3 drops fell on us then nothing. She said we could walk by then and “get the jist of it”…..? How does that work when you drove from another state, then drove an hour from your staying place and you cant get inside? She could have walked with us down and unlocked them if it still wasn’t raining. She obviously had decided she was done working for the day so no one else would need her inside. It was very frustrating for my children to go through the not as exciting part then be denied the cool part. We are studying American history this year and were super excited to see this museum about Cherokee history. It is too bad the lady that works here isn’t as excited about sharing it.

It was a small but intimate Cherokee festival with good vendors, the grounds were in great condition

Cherokee Fall Festival - Great event - Music, food, stories and a demonstration of the printing press used to produce the bi-ligual Cherokee newspaper.

We went to the Fall festival on Saturday...had to park a good ways from the event, I felt there should have been a shuttle for people so we were tired by the time we got to it. I was looking forward to a real PowWow which didn't happen, was very disappointed. I had trouble taking it seriously and I didn't need to know if they were wearing underwear. We were planning on eating there but there was very little vendors and the lines were crazy. I felt that it was poorly organized.... doubtful that we will go back.

We had visited the museum once before in the past and we were very impressed. The museum is not huge, but very nicely done. We learned a lot about Sequoyah and the Cherokee people. Today we went to the Cherokee festival. It was very educational and fun. They had quite a few vendors, displays and activities. Yet again, we learned even more of the Cherokee people. It is definitely worth a visit, both for the museum and the special events.

I took my four children there and we had a great time. Educational and we learned many interesting things. You walk through at your own pace. They have the burial mound out back of the museum and we stopped by the gift shop on the way out. Price was affordable for our tickets and reasonable on gift items.
